Another year is about to go away. United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres mentioned in his 2022 New Year's speech that "our hope for the future is undergoing various tests." Poverty is deepening, conflicts continue, and inequality is getting worse. The epidemic has not disappeared, and the climate crisis has intensified. The number of hungry people in the world has reached 811 million. 45 million people in 43 countries are on the brink of famine. Compared with 2019, the number of men, women and children who are forced to reduce food or cannot get food has increased by 27 million. The world has deviated from the track of achieving the sustainable development goals. Under such circumstances, we need to unite, uphold and develop multilateralism, and reform the driving force to promote the implementation of the common development agenda.

At the end of September this year, at the United Nations Food System Summit, people from all over the world gathered around the food system and reiterated that the prosperity of mankind, the planet, and society is at the core of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. In the current epidemic, changes in the food system can play an important role in promoting global recovery and help achieve zero hunger. The process of preparing for the Food System Summit for the past two years has profoundly confirmed that our food system can indeed achieve our common vision-to make the world a better place.

The "State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World" report jointly written by the World Food Program and other United Nations agencies was released. The report pointed out that last year, about one-tenth of the world's population (811 million people) faced the predicament of undernourishment. This figure shows that countries urgently need to make great efforts to realize their pledge to eradicate hunger by 2030.

The World Food Program and the Chinese government signed an agreement to provide food assistance to vulnerable people in Cameroon, Guinea-Bissau, Sierra Leone and Uganda, including children, refugees, and internally displaced persons. It aims to alleviate the increasing food insecurity caused by the economic and social impact of the new crown epidemic.
